Me, on myself

I am a musician, primarily a composer, but with performance experience as a conductor, violist, 'cellist, oboist, English hornist, and now as a carillonist.   I am the University Carillonist for the University of California at Berkeley, a position I have held since 2000. Prior to my tenure at Berkeley I was University Carillonist at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

As a child, I studied composition with Don Gillis, Deems Taylor, and Howard Hanson.  As an adult, my carillon teacher was Ronald Barnes. Although my compositional interests extend beyond the tonal framework of my teachers, they all instilled in me the desire to write  for a wide and discerning audience.

I am fortunate to be Director of Carillon at Berkeley, where I have an active performance, teaching, and composing life supported within the framework of a great university.  I am truly thankful.

As a professional carillonist I perform throughout North America and Europe, and am an active member of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America.  I have served The GCNA as President and member of the Board of Directors, and on the Examination committee.

As a composer, my works have not been performed nearly enough.

My music is available at ScoreExchange.com (http://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/jeffdavis),
American Carillon Music Editions, through  the GCNA, and by direct contact.
